David Waterstradt is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA), one of only a handful of attorneys in the State of Michigan who has earned CELA certification from the National Elder Law Foundation. He has over twenty years of experience in estate and tax planning, estate and trust administration, elder law, Medicaid planning and special needs planning. For ten years prior to starting his own practice, David was Senior Counsel with a highly regarded 200 plus attorney firm, Warner Norcross & Judd, LLP. He holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the Northwestern University School of Law and is a cum laude graduate of Grand Valley State University with B.A. degrees in Economics and French. He is also an Accredited Attorney through the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of General Counsel.

In his current practice David represents individuals in preparing their estate plans, including Wills, Trust, Durable Powers of Attorney and Patient Advocate Designations. He has expertise in planning to reduce taxes, avoid probate, protect assets from nursing homes expenses, and in the creation of asset protection trusts for children and other beneficiaries. He helps individuals in need of assisted living or nursing home care qualify for Medicaid and Veteran's benefits and helps disabled individuals and their families with the establishment of special needs trusts. He also helps families with private reverse mortgages and other techniques that facilitate private payment of long term care expenses. David has experience in preparing prenuptial and postnuptial agreements and the preparation of complicated estate plans involving distributions to children from prior marriages.

 
David also represents personal representatives and successor trustees and guides them through the estate settlement process. In addition, he helps persons seeking appointment as a guardian or conservator for an elderly or disabled person and counsels guardians and conservators in the fulfillment of their duties.

David is a current member of the board of directors of the Alzheimer's Association-Michigan Great Lakes Chapter, the Lake Michigan Estate Planning Council and is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He is also a past president of the Muskegon County Bar Association and the Muskegon ARC. He is the head varsity cross country coach at North Muskegon High School and frequently runs in local road races, sadly getting a little slower with each passing year.

David and his wife Carolyn have three children, Abigail, Mathias and Rebecca, and one grandchild, Ivy. Carolyn is an LMSW clinical social worker employed by Pine Rest. Abigail is studying Environmental Science at Grand Valley State University, Mathias is studying Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at Ferris State University and Rebecca is a student at Community College with a passion for dance.
